Hi Amazon: It took me a while to find any
information on Celexa (also called Citalopram). This is a brand new anti-depressant in the US. All
anti-depressants have some side effects and sleep problems aren't uncommon. However, it's kind of hard to fight depression when you're tired from lack of sleep. Talk to your dr.
and see if maybe a slightly higher dose will knock
the sleep problems or if another type of drug would
work better. I'm glad you wrote about this drug. It's
my understanding that new anti-depressants are
coming on the market all the time. It's good to be able
to keep up with them and know the good and bad
points of each.

Are you really having trouble sleeping? Have you
talked with your dr. about lowering the dosage of one or
the other of the drugs to see which one is causing
your insomnia? Sometimes you have to play with these
meds to see how they work best for you. Unfortunately
there's really no concrete dosage that works the same for
everyone. You may have to do a little juggling up and down
before you find the dose that makes you feel better.

I have no trouble sleeping (I take 10 MG of
zoloft). Maybe it is the Wellbutrin, or the combination of
the 2. Try taking Valerian an hour before going to
bed. It is an herb and is VERY safe. It has no adverse
interactions with anti-depressant medications.
It is wonderful being at peace, isn't it? There are so many people that suffer needlessly from depression. They are either ignorant or too ashamed to tell their doctor. It is a shame, because anti-depressants really are a God-send.

Best wishes to you too flstplt!

I tried 7 different anti-depressants before I
found one that worked. Took a total of 2 years!! I've
been on zoloft now off and on for about 7 years. It
has decreased my sex drive a LOT, but it has helped
my depression, anxiety and PMS. I think on the whole
it has been a God-send.

How long were you on the Zoloft, flstplt? You
might want to give it some time before you judge the
sex drive thing. The same thing happened to me for
about the first 6 to 10 months I was on Effexor, but
guess what? We're over that and things in that area
have never been better!! ;-)
I'm relaxed and not all strung out with anxieties and worries, etc., so I can finally enjoy. These drugs may take quite some time to work all the bugs out of us. We're used to drugs like aspirin and pepto-bismal that work right away. Anti-depressants are different. All the positive effects may not be experienced for weeks, maybe even months. It's so hard to be patient, but as long as the drug is controlling the symptoms, it's worth giving it some time to see if the side effects will work
themselves out.

Hi Catherine...Thanks for joining... and bless
your heart, I know what you're experiencing. Trust me,
it won't last long. Your second dose shouldn't make
you nauseated. It's usually that very first dose. I
have had very good luck with Effexor; it seemed to be
the only drug that has worked that I haven't quickly
built up a tolerance to. Effexor does have one major
drawback and that is withdrawal. Should you stop taking it
it is usually not a pleasant experience. Whatever
you do, don't ever just STOP cold-turkey. You have to
wean very slowly off. Don't know if your dr. told you
that (they seem to kinda forget these things). What
other drugs have you tried? <br>Just take it easy today
and by tomorrow you should feel much better. I know
that first dose is a doozy, but if you can get through
that one it usually gets better from there. :-)

I,too have tried several antidepressants-all were
intolerable for me. I'm on the rollercoaster one more time. I
took my first dose of EffexorXR last night. Today I'm
dealing with nausea and a wretched spaced out feeling. At
this point I'm not sure I'll take a second dose. How
do you deal with these initial side effects? I can't
just stay in bed until this stuff starts working.
